A middle class white man can not be called 'Daquan' and name his son 'Bob'
Audience Theory
1) This article is suggesting that the long term effect of playing video games is dangerous on us and can increase aggressive behaviour. In reference to the Hypodermic needle model video games are a form of media and when it comes to violent games the study believes that information is being injected into the user and can therefore have a, not a short term, but a long term negative effect.
2)
People may criticise this front page as it refers to the boy as a violent video game addict. They may criticise it as this study has not yet been proven and ironically this newspaper is a form of media which is injecting information into the reader. It also refers to him as a 'son of a single mother', this is in bold, underlined and larger text. They make it seem like this is the reason he did what he did however the reason behind it is not there.
Two-step flow model
1) The two-step flow model is a more detailed and complex version of the Hypodermic needle model. It suggests that 'opinion leaders' control how the audience think, not the media itself. Opinion leaders were usually people of influence with greater access to information. I don't think it is as relevant today as when it was first created when propaganda played a large part of this while it does not really exist in most parts of the world.
2) The YouTuber 'The cynical Brit' fits into the two-step flow model as people that have YouTube channels have a small influence over their audience. Furthermore when he gives his thoughts and opinions to his audience they maybe influenced by what he says.
3) The people that are seen as the most influential Tweeters have a large impact on the two-step flow model as they are the 'opinion leaders'. Social media has a large influence over how people think as they are seen as more important then normal people. Their thoughts and opinions does manipulate how the audience thinks.
4) Jamal Edwards fits into the two-step flow model as he has gained influence over certain audiences and what he posts and conveys to his audience may impact their thoughts or beliefs.
I thought I was a reformer however my number one value was control which is a characteristic of a succeeder. However my second highest value was enlightenment which is a characteristic of a reformer. I agree I am a reformer and sometimes I believe in the values of a succeeder however I do not think I am a succeeder at this point in time.

Narrative Task
I, Robot
This movie starts of by being in an equilibrium however a rogue robots that defies the three laws of robotics, this is the disequilibrium. In this scene detective Spooner, played by Will Smith, is the hero and protagonist. He is also with a woman called Susan who plays the helper in this scene as she shows him around the factory. The rogue robot appears to be the villain in this scene however later on in the film he joins forces with detective Spooner to take down the real villain, V.I.K.I.
There are a few enigma codes that holds the audience's interest such as, why has this robot suddenly decided to defy the three laws? and what are the robots true intentions? The action code is at the start of the scene when the detective draws his gun. This signifies that there will be some action in this scene. This movie also follows the linear pattern of progress to a resolution in the form of beginning, middle and end.
Heroes
Heroes is a drama that revolves around multiple characters so it is logical that is follows the multi-strand narrative pattern. This is when more then one narrative is running parallel involving different characters and narratives. There are multiple enigma codes for this scene, one being who survives the fall and does he catch the girl?
When considering Todorov's theory of equilibrium, we know that there was once a state of equilibrium before the characters got their powers. In this clip the disequilibrium is the villain trying to take the powers of the other characters. Propp's character theory was fairly easy to apply to this scene. The clear hero was the man in the brown jacket as he was trying to help the cheerleader who was the princess in this scene. The villain was the man who was dressed in all black and had his face covered by the shade from his cap. However at the end of the scene there was another woman who may of been the real villain who is using the man dressed in all black as a puppet.
Coco Pops Advert
This advert starts in a state of equilibrium by everyone happily eating their cereal together around a table. The disequilibrium then occurs when the villain, which is the crocodile, tries to steal the Coco Pops from the other animals. The hero is the monkey as he ultimately reclaims the cereal while the hippo helps the monkey in this ordeal. Also the chameleon is a helper.
The enigma code that holds the audience's attention and control how much we know. In this advert people want to know if the crocodile is going to get away with the cereal or if the monkey can get it back for him and his friends.

Institution: Cool Brands Research
Nike
Nike follows a few of Dyer's lines of appeal. One of their main ones is elite people and experts. This is emphasised even through their advertising when they use real athletes so promote their brand. They make it seems as if you will be just as good simply for wearing Nike merchandise. I think they're a cool brand as the teens of today often have trends of it is seen as fashionable to wear Nike.
Aston Martin
Aston Martin is seen as very cool as they are a very prestigious and luxurious brand which only a select amount of people can afford, the majority cannot. When it comes to Dyer's lines of appeal it follows rich and luxurious lifestyles.
Bang & Olufsen
I think that Bang & Olufsen is a very cool brand as they design unique merchandise. Some of their speakers have very sleek and fashionable designs while their headphones and earphones are very different to what is normally seen on the market. They produce more high-end products so when it comes to Dyer's lines of appeal rich and luxurious lifestyles is important.
Instagram
I would describe Instagram as cool at this moment of time as it very popular amongst a wide range of people. Even very popular celebrities ,such as The Rock, use Instagram on a daily basis. When it comes to Dyer's lines of appeal it mainly includes self-importance and pride. This may just be my perspective but a large amount of Instagram users use it to feel important in today's society.
Sony
I would describe Sony as cool mainly because they make good reliable products so therefore they are popular. They also made PlayStation which is a series of video game consoles, which I believe to be cool because of its success. When it comes to Dyer's lines of appeal it covers multiple of them. Mainly it covers rich, luxurious lifestyles as they are a high-end brand and their merchandise isn't the cheapest. Also they make fairly new technology as well as new and innovative ideas.
